Help Kill “Real ID”

The Real ID Act is basically going to make it to U.S. citizens have to have a national ID card. Bill Sanchez, owner of the site UnrealID, says this:

We have less than 48 hours to stop our nation from having a National ID card scheme. Do we really want to have the same ID system as Communist China? I think not.

The US Senate is scheduled to vote this Tuesday on the Real ID Act. They’ve never debated the bill. Most of them haven’t even bothered to read it. Nevertheless, they’re going to pass it: unless we do something to stop them

Real ID is a very, very real national identification card.

This isn’t going to be easy, but we need to put the Senate on notice that if they vote for Real ID, they’re voting in favor of a National ID Card.

I read this via Boing Boing.

    I really hate when I support causes but fanatical people lead the cause. For example, the “suggestions” on how to write to your senators include the following:

    * be polite, and respectful;
    * remind them they should read and discuss a bill before voting on it;
    * tell them that this is America, not Communist China;
    * suggest that putting cops and judges in danger is not a good idea;
    * inform them that we must not let the terrorists change American life;
    * tell them that forcing National ID cards on us would be a victory for Osama bin Laden.

    I think that covers all our bases.

  • True. The real thing that bothers me is they slipped it into another bill that provides supplies for our troops. Since that’s the case I assume it hasn’t been looked at by many people that should be looking at it. It’s been done before I know, but not with something like this. It’s a real dirty trick in my opinion.
